Duncan Stahl tops the rankings and ends the year as number 1

This month's update includes the final domestic event (Redbridge Xmas), world points gained at the British Open and any points from UK players entering the World Championships.

Congratulations to Duncan who has peformed well all year both domestically and at international events.  Jermaine Manners finished second, with more regular domestic performances he would have topped the rankings.  Other regular international and domestic performers Ray, Keith and Rakesh are well placed.  After his win at Croydon Alex Hartley is back in the top 10.

It is clear that there is now strength in depth in UK racketlon.  The class A category at Croydon was extremely competitive with players like Keith Lesser and Rakesh Gupta now coming under pressure to maintain their high rankings going into 2012.  Jagdev Sagoo and Paul Wallace are currently at 19 and 15 with David Culshaw at 11. Chris Mckee is talking about focussing on triathlon in 2012, we hope to keep him involved as he definitely has the talent to be a regular tour winner. Josh Kashdan-Brown is improving all the time and performed well at the World Championships.

In its inaugural year Duncan Stahl tops the domestic race at the end of the year with consistently good performances over the events he entered.  The only regional events he missed were the Lancs and Sussex Open.  In 2nd and 3rd place were Stuart Hobden and Alex Hartley respectively.

A special mention to Darren Vickery who played in ten events along with Resham Sagoo, Gavin Larkin and Keith Lesser who played in 8. Richard Lawrence only shows as playing 5 however that is due to him alternating between Vets and Open categories (Richard - all the players thank you for effort you put into making the tournaments run well, it is appreciated).

In the ladies no new challengers have emerged to challenge Isabelle or Natalie.  After her strong performance in the County event we hope Gemma Sgariglia will progress next year.  Other promising newcomers included Jenny Hughes and Louise Jackson.

In the Veterans Rakesh Gupta secured the top spot.  Despite being crowned World Champion Dave Lazarus is only the UK number 4 (the top 3 compete regularly all year round).  Newcomers Andrew Fletcher and Michael Appleton will be players to watch in 2012.

With only 2 events in the over 55s Richard Lawrence tops the list followed by Roman Szwaba.  David Hall collected the National Championships.

The current ranking system is designed to encourage regular domestic or international play and we are really keen to get players playing in a number of tournaments each year.

If people know of any suitable venues please let us know.  We want to build up mini tours in each region to help minimise the travel for new players. The management committee are very willing to help people organise events for 2012.

World Rankings

Currently, if you enter the English Open, Scottish Open, Welsh Open or British Open, you will qualify for world ranking points and thus a world ranking. This is because, these events form part of the world racketlon tour. The English & Scottish Opens form part of the world tour proper & the British & Welsh Opens as challenger events. Going forward there is the opportunity for further domestic events to have world ranking points allocated.
